چکیده

We have developed the 3-dimensional optical model for thin film silicon solar cells (amorphous, microcrystalline, single or multijunction) with nanorough surfaces/interfaces. For these cells the external quantum efficiency, short circuit current, total reflectance and all absorption losses can be computed taking into account roughness, angular distribution of scattered light, thicknesses and experimentally determined optical constants of all layers. The model gives very good agreement with the experimentally determined data for micro-crystalline silicon and micromorph (amorphousmicrocrystalline silicon tandem) solar cells. Based on the analysis of optical losses and possible improvements in the materials properties, a roadmap for over 15% stable efficiency of micromorph solar cell has been suggested.

Transmission Electron Microscopy of the Textured Silver Back Reflector of a Thin Film Silicon Solar Cell: from Crystallography to Optical Absorption

The study of light trapping in amorphous, microcrystalline and micromorph thin-film Si solar cells is an important and active field of investigation. It has been demonstrated that the use of a rough Ag back-reflector lead to an increase of short circuit current but also to losses through the creation of surface plasmon polaritons. Here, we use transmission electron microscopy (TEM) techniques t...

Flexible flux plane simulations of parasitic absorption in nanoplasmonic thin-film silicon solar cells

Photovoltaic light trapping theory and experiment do not always clearly demonstrate how much useful optical absorption is enhanced, as opposed to parasitic absorption that cannot improve efficiencies. In this work, we develop a flexible flux plane method for capturing these parasitic losses within finite-difference time-domain simulations, which was applied to three classical types of light tra...

The Bay Area Photovoltaic Consortium (BAPVC) is conceived to create a vibrant forum for interaction among Photovoltaic (PV) industry and academic experts to address the critical challenges in converting the U.S. leadership in PV R&D into leadership in PV Manufacturing. The U.S. faces substantial challenges in building such a PV manufacturing base as many of our competitors benefit from fewer ma...

Gains from diversification on convex combinations: A majorization and stochastic dominance approach

By incorporating both majorization theory and stochastic dominance theory, this paper presents a general theory and a unifying framework for determining the diversification preferences of risk-averse investors and conditions under which they would unanimously judge a particular asset to be superior. In particular, we develop a theory for comparing the preferences of different convex combination...

Improved immunogenicity of tetanus toxoid by Brucella abortus S19 LPS adjuvant.

BACKGROUND Adjuvants are used to increase the immunogenicity of new generation vaccines, especially those based on recombinant proteins. Despite immunostimulatory properties, the use of bacterial lipopolysaccharide (LPS) as an adjuvant has been hampered due to its toxicity and pyrogenicity. Brucella abortus LPS is less toxic and has no pyrogenic properties compared to LPS from other gram negati...
